Walter's closing line originated with a radio show called, "you Are There,"
which was an historical show that took an historical event and presented it as
though it were happening then and there; and Walter, along with other
reporters, did the show as if they were reporting on the event live on the air.
I remember many of the shows. When the radio show ended, Walter's closing
comments would be something like, "And that's the way it was...July 4, 1776,
the opening of the American Revolution. All things are as they were then,
except you are there."

He'll be missed.

Dick
