I can't think of any recent changes to diffoscope that would cause
this either. However, the problem could still "be" diffoscope in that
upgrading to bookworm has meant that the many programs that diffoscope
calls out to have been upgraded as well? Maybe these are much slower
for some reason.

Is there a way to see what diffoscope is up to? (the child process
tree? strace?)
