That is certainly very, very odd. I haven't seen this before.
Are there any non-UTF-8 characters in this diff?
Would you mind trying 1.5 RC 1, clearing your memcached, and then viewing
the diff again? There was a small bug in the diff viewer that was fixed. It
*might* be related, but it's really hard to say.
