Maybe this is a reference to my previous comment, which I may have poorly 
worded?

Basically, for packaged version of the shell that we upload to PyPI for pip 
installation, there's no reason this needs to be thrift==0.11.0. I've tested it 
with thrift==0.13.0 (which I think is the latest version), and it seems to work 
fine -- but here I'm sticking with 0.11.0 because that's what we're shipping to 
customers.
