While we don't like adding more configs and code for maintenance, if its somewhat risky change and with all the corner cases and different ways to run I think its warranted. Actually what we can do is leave the config undocumented and default to new algorithm and put a deprecated message by it so we can remove it in like a 3.1 if we want.
