+ *
+ * Keys must be non-null strings; a null key is an error. The `ON NULL` clause
controls whether

omitted (ABSENT ON NULL).
+ *
+ * A value is spliced in raw (unquoted) when it carries `FORMAT JSON` (tracked

JsonConstructorNullBehavior.Null,
+ returning: DataType = StringType,
+ timeZoneId: Option[String] = None)
+ extends Expression
+ with TimeZoneAwareExpression
+ with CodegenFallback
Review Comment:
**Non-blocking (P2):** Mixing in CodegenFallback excludes the containing
Project from whole-stage codegen, and the eval path also invokes a separate
one-element Jackson evaluator for every emitted non-raw member. For dynamic
fixed-key objects this adds an interpreted boundary plus member-count-scaled
flushes and temporary Strings on every row.
**Recommended change:** Introduce an object-level JSON_OBJECT rendering path
that evaluates each child once in key/value order, uses one writer lifecycle
for the complete object, and integrates with Catalyst code generation rather
than marking the Project as fallback.
**Why this works:** Configure one evaluator with the member data types,
raw/validation flags, null behavior, returning type, and timezone. Feed it
generated or otherwise codegen-compatible child results in pair order so it can
write field names, ordinary values, nulls, and validated raw fragments directly
into one object generator and return one final string. Preserve null-key
failure ordering and stateful-expression fresh-copy semantics.
**Scope:** Replace member-fragment rendering with a single object renderer
and connect it to Catalyst's expression code-generation contract, with semantic
and scale coverage.
**Compatibility:** JSON_OBJECT must remain byte-for-byte compatible with the
current supported semantics, including trusted versus validated raw JSON and
qualified-call quoting.
**Risks:** Evaluating all children before the renderer could change the
required key-before-value exception order. Using raw Jackson writes without the
existing validation distinction could admit malformed user FORMAT JSON text.
Sharing mutable evaluator state across expression copies or tasks could
introduce concurrency corruption.
**Constraints:** Preserve pair order, duplicate-key output, NULL versus
ABSENT behavior, timezone rendering, collated RETURNING casts, and flattened
error positions. Preserve direct, carrier-backed unqualified, shadowed, and
qualified routing semantics; performance work must not broaden implicit raw
splicing. Keep each stateful expression copy task-local and evaluate each key
before its paired value.
**Success:** A dynamic JSON_OBJECT writes each output object through one
writer lifecycle and produces no per-member wrapper strings. A Project
containing supported JSON_OBJECT shapes remains eligible for whole-stage code
generation. All existing JSON bytes, errors, evaluation order, null behavior,
routing boundaries, collations, and timezones remain unchanged.
**Verification:**
- **Behavior:** Compare ordinary, complex, raw, null, dynamic-key,
duplicate-key, timezone, and collated-return outputs and structured failures
before and after the renderer change.
- **Regression:** For non-foldable fixed-key objects over increasing row and
member counts, demonstrate one object serialization per row and materially
improved throughput/allocation relative to the prior member-fragment path.
- **Compatibility:** Verify direct, unqualified carrier-backed, shadowed,
and qualified calls retain their established raw-versus-quoted and ownership
behavior.
- **Inspection:** Confirm the physical Project remains whole-stage eligible
and the implementation contains no per-member one-element serialization
lifecycle.

Review Comment:
**Non-blocking (P2):** `foldable` is plan-invariant, but this branch
recomputes it for every row of every explicit FORMAT JSON member. Composite
non-foldable children can recursively walk their expression tree each time,
adding row-by-tree-depth CPU to this already interpreted path.
**Verification:**
- **Regression:** Use a composite non-foldable FORMAT JSON child over
multiple rows and prove foldability classification is performed once while
validation remains row-specific.
- **Behavior:** Verify valid and malformed foldable and non-foldable FORMAT
JSON members retain output, validation count semantics, error parameters, and
null handling.

Review Comment:
**Non-blocking (P2):** This shadowing block covers comma, VALUE, and star
calls, but not a clause-free colon member. A change that constructs only
`json_object('id' : 7)` directly would keep every existing assertion green
while violating the documented routine-resolution contract for that spelling.
**Verification:**
- **Regression:** Under a configured same-named routine, assert exact
routine output for a clause-free colon member and built-in output for an
explicitly clause-bearing direct form.
- **Compatibility:** Retain the existing comma, VALUE, star,
nested-producer, and qualified routing assertions so the new interaction does
not redefine neighboring ownership boundaries.
