Review Comment:
   Minor: this copies the `Cast.isTimeToTimestampNTZ` /
`Cast.isTimeToTimestampLTZ` guards of `ComputeCurrentTime.expressionTransform`,
which is private, so the startup placeholders and the rewrites of
`ComputeCurrentTime` can drift apart. If `ComputeCurrentTime` gets another
rewrite which takes the current date, `forStartup` would not replace it, the
startup optimization would fold it to the start time and push the filter down,
and every later micro-batch would fail the containment check.

   Could `ComputeCurrentTime` expose one predicate which both use?

Review Comment:
   Excluding `InferFiltersFromConstraints` here keeps the startup optimization
from pushing an inferred filter down, but the optimizer of each micro-batch
still infers filters, and `ConstantPropagation` can then rewrite a pushed
filter away. So a valid query, which worked before this PR, fails with the new
`INTERNAL_ERROR` of `DataSourceV2Strategy.streamingScanOutput`.

   For example, a stream-static join:
   ```scala
   spark.readStream.table(t).where("id > 1")
     .join(spark.table(dim).where("sid = 5"), $"id" === $"sid")
   ```
   - At startup, nothing is inferred, so `id > 1` is pushed down to the scan of
`t`.
   - In each micro-batch, `InferFiltersFromConstraints` infers `id = 5` from
`sid = 5` and `id = sid`, `CombineFilters` merges it with `id > 1`, and
`ConstantPropagation` rewrites `id > 1` to `5 > 1`, which is folded to `true`
and dropped.
   - The filters over the relation no longer have `id > 1`, so the first
micro-batch fails with `The plan does not apply the filters (id > 1) ...`.

   The same happens in a stream-stream join whenever both sides have new data,
e.g., `source.where("id > 0")` joined with `other.where("oid = 2")`. The new
test "push down no filter that the optimizer infers from the filters of another
source" uses `oid < 3`, which `ConstantPropagation` does not propagate.

   Could we add a test with an equality on the other side, and make the check
accept a pushed filter which the filters of the micro-batch imply, at least
when it folds to `true` under their `attr = literal` equalities?

Review Comment:
   `pushedFilters` records every filter given to the builder, while the result
of `PushDownUtils.pushFilters` at L266, which tells what the builder did with
them, is dropped. So the filters which cannot be translated (e.g., `a + c > 10`
for a `SupportsPushDownFilters` builder, or a `ScalaUDF` predicate) and those
which the source rejects are also required in every micro-batch, although the
scan never applies them, and any rewrite of them in a micro-batch (L126, L211)
fails the query although no row could be lost. The plan string also shows them
as `PushedFilters`, while batch scans show only `pushedFilters()` /
`pushedPredicates()`.

   Could we record only the filters which the builder took, e.g., by letting
`pushFilters` (or a variant of it) return them as catalyst expressions?

Review Comment:
   Correction to my earlier
[suggestion](https://github.com/apache/spark/pull/59943#discussion_r4463353264):
 requiring that `ExpressionSet(filters)` contains the pushed filters compares
two independent optimizations of the query by syntax, so it cannot tell a
rewrite which keeps the meaning (`id > 1` implied by `id = 5`) from a real
divergence. Each known divergence needs its own exclusion at startup
(`InferFiltersFromConstraints`, `StartupValue`), and every remaining rewrite
which only a micro-batch can do, such as the ones in the comments on
`StreamingV2ScanPushDown.scala:126` and `:211`, or one of a future optimizer
rule, turns into a failure of a valid query. A loud failure is still better
than wrong results, but the check is stricter than what correctness needs.

   Could the check accept the pushed filters which the filters over the
relation imply, rather than only those which they contain syntactically?

   Nit: both callers only pass `streamingScan.stream` on to
`StreamingDataSourceV2ScanRelation.stream`, which is a `SparkDataStream`, so
the type parameter `S` of `StreamingScan` and `buildScan` is not used. Could
they take `createStream: Scan => SparkDataStream` instead?

+ * Pushes the top-level columns and the filters that the optimized plan of a
streaming query reads
+ * from each Data Source V2 streaming source down to the scan of the source, as
+ * `V2ScanRelationPushDown` does for the scans of batch queries.
+ *
+ * The stream of a source is created from its scan, and has to exist before
any micro-batch is
+ * planned, so the scan is built when the query starts. The query is optimized
once at that point,
+ * by the optimizer of its micro-batches and with their configuration, and the
scan of each source
+ * gets what the planner takes from the optimized plan for the relation of the
source (see
+ * `DataSourceV2Strategy`): the projections and the filters over each
occurrence of the relation.
+ *
+ * The plan of the query does not change, so each micro-batch is optimized as
without these
+ * pushdowns: the optimizer keeps deciding which columns every operator gets,
and in which order,
+ * including the stateful ones, and Spark still evaluates all the filters over
the relation. Only
+ * the scan node of the physical plan outputs the columns that the scan reads,
and the planner
+ * checks that the micro-batch reads no other column of the relation, and
still applies the filters
+ * that the scan got.
+ *
+ * The other operations that the scans of batch queries can apply, such as
aggregates and limits,
+ * apply to the data of all the micro-batches of a streaming query, which the
scan of a micro-batch
+ * does not read, so they are not pushed down.

filtered over it. A
+ * relation that the optimized plan does not have has no entry, so that its

if the optimized

restarted query pins, and
+ * without the cost-based reordering of joins, which `StreamExecution`
disables for its queries.

the state of the

micro-batch gets the
+ * values of, become placeholders that the optimizer does not take as
deterministic, as the
+ * current time of a micro-batch, and no filter on them is pushed down.
+ * - The filters that the optimizer infers from the constraints of the
plan, such as those of the
+ * filters over another relation joined with the relation, are not
inferred. The optimizer of a
+ * micro-batch may not infer them, for example when the other relation is
a source without new
+ * data in the micro-batch, which the optimizer removes with its filters.
+ * - The relations of batch scans become placeholders, so that their scans

Review Comment:
   `StartupValue` is `Unevaluable`, and `forStartup` also replaces the
expressions in the rows of a `ResolvedInlineTable`, which
`EvaluateUnresolvedInlineTable` keeps unevaluated when they have
`CURRENT_LIKE`. So a stream-static join with, e.g., `SELECT * FROM VALUES (1,
current_date()) AS s(k, d)` makes `EvalInlineTables` evaluate a `StartupValue`
at startup, which fails with
`INVALID_INLINE_TABLE.FAILED_SQL_EXPRESSION_EVALUATION`. The `NonFatal` case at
L169-173 only logs it, so the query runs, but none of its sources gets any
pruning or filter, and the warning names an expression which the user never
wrote.

   Could `forStartup` replace a `ResolvedInlineTable` with a `BatchRelation`
too, as it does for the relations of batch scans?

Review Comment:
   Nit: this builds an `Array` and a `GenericInternalRow` per row, and
`PruningContinuousReaderFactory` in `StreamingV2ScanPushDownSuite.scala`
repeats it. Could both use `ProjectingInternalRow(schema, colOrdinals)` with
`project(row)`, which catalyst already has for this?

+        case e if e.containsPattern(CURRENT_LIKE) || isTimeToTimestamp(e) =>
+          StartupValue(e.children, e.dataType, e.nullable)

Review Comment:
   `StartupValue` keeps a filter on `now()` from being pushed down, but the
micro-batches still fold `now()`, `current_time()`, `current_user()`,
`current_database()` and the other values of `ComputeCurrentTime` and
`ReplaceCurrentLike` into literals: `withBatchTimestamp` only replaces
`CurrentTimestamp`, `CurrentTimestampNanos`, `LocalTimestamp`,
`LocalTimestampNanos` and `CurrentDate`, and `Now` is a separate case class.
With such a literal, `ConstantPropagation` of a micro-batch can rewrite another
pushed filter away, as in the comment on L126:
   ```scala
   spark.readStream.table(t).where("d = to_date(now()) AND d >=
DATE'2020-01-01'")
   ```
   - At startup, `d = CAST(StartupValue AS DATE)` is not pushed down, but `d >=
DATE'2020-01-01'` is.
   - In each micro-batch, `now()` becomes a literal, the cast is folded to the
date of the micro-batch, e.g., `DATE'2026-11-04'`, and `ConstantPropagation`
turns `d >= DATE'2020-01-01'` into `DATE'2026-11-04' >= DATE'2020-01-01'`,
which is folded to `true` and dropped.
   - So every micro-batch fails with `INTERNAL_ERROR`. `where("owner =
current_user() AND owner <> ''")` fails the same way.

   `current_timestamp()` and `current_date()` are not affected only because
`withBatchTimestamp` turns them into `CurrentBatchTimestamp`, which is not a
literal. Could the fix for L126 cover this too, with tests for `now()` and
`current_user()`?

Review Comment:
   Minor: only `e.toString` reaches the warning at L294-297, so a connector
whose pruned `readSchema()` throws a wrapped exception falls back to a full
scan at every start with no stack trace or cause in the log. Could the warning
get the throwable too, as the one at L171-172 does?

+ * Pushes the top-level columns and the filters that the optimized plan of a
streaming query reads
+ * from each Data Source V2 streaming source down to the scan of the source, as
+ * `V2ScanRelationPushDown` does for the scans of batch queries.
+ *
+ * The stream of a source is created from its scan, and has to exist before

deterministic, as the

+ * - The filters that the optimizer infers from the constraints of the
plan, such as those of the
+ * filters over another relation joined with the relation, are not
inferred. The optimizer of a
+ * micro-batch may not infer them, for example when the other relation is
a source without new

Review Comment:
   Following up on the Python data source
[thread](https://github.com/apache/spark/pull/59943#discussion_r4463353257):
this fixes the Python sources, but the shared streaming code now special-cases
a concrete builder class, while the cause is that
`PythonScanBuilder.pushFilters` runs the reader of batch scans. Any other
builder whose `pushFilters` needs the state of a batch read, in a third-party
connector or in a future builder of this repo, still gets it called at every
stream start by default, and fails the same way.

   Could this be decided by `PythonScanBuilder` itself, or by an explicit
capability, rather than by a match on its class here?
