@zhengruifeng Wasn't there some history on this issue? I thought there was
another PR? If that's the case, it's always helpful to post links to
discussions, or just to summarize the discussions here. And even if not, for
larger PRs I think it's always nice to summarize what you did, what some of the
important choices were, and why they were made.
