Github user vanzin commented on the issue: https://github.com/apache/spark/pull/19640 I'm not a fan of this change; this seems like it should be done client-side, so that the browser shows timestamps in its own time zone, and the server should only know about UTC. The API probably should be left alone - especially because with this change it becomes a little confusing, since you have a timestamp in whatever is the configured server tz, and the raw value which is in UTC.
