At the moment, it's problematic just getting X to work on a T7200 Dell
with an Intel i810 driver (the only thing which worked was running
system-config-display remotely).


Check back in the archives for this list; I had a problem with X on my Dell GX270 (Petnium IV 3.0, but hardly new). The solution that worked for me might work for you too.

It might also be worth trying the latest FC6 beta (or rawhide which might be about equal to FC6-gold) and/or SUSE 10.1 and/or SLES 10 for comparison. SUSE and SLES both work better on my Dell than RHEL5.
