Try smbclient //fred/overthere --user=username%password -N -c 'put ethyl'

Although I probably should try to find a samba group for this, I need a RHEL version/style of command line to copy a file onto a network shared folder on a particular PC running windoze XP. I am trying here first since often the platform has something to do with goofing up the suggested command lines, and I don't know enough about what I'm doing to know the difference. I am running RHEL 5.2. As an example set up, the PC is known as FRED or ip 10.0.0.90 and has a shared folder called "overhere". I need to send the file ethyl onto what I know elsewhere as \\FRED\overthere\ethyl . In this example, this folder is not password protected on the windoze side. It'd be great if it were as easy as "cp ethyl //10.0.0.9/overthere/ethyl", but obviously it is not quite that easy (yes I tried=). Also can I freely supply the IP instead of FRED in the command line to cross into other subnets? I am already sharing RHEL based folders all the time, I just don't know how to get to ones that are shared from PC's.
