On VMware ESX 3.x which is based on RHEL3 we achieved a similar thing by

removing the HBA modules from the initrds and netstg2 images and 
remastering the install media. We then kickstart from a PXE boot and 
install to the local RAID as normal. Of course these modules are 
installed to the system and are available after the install. While this 
is a bit of work it's a one-off for each version and means your SAN isnt

even probed.

I will investigate some of the suggestions in this thread to see if we 
can achieve a similar thing in an easier way, but it's unclear to me at 
this stage which will and won't work for RHEL3.
