Hi,

A user whose home directory is mounted over NFS has complained of
delays, particularly when using vi. As far as I can tell there is a
noticable delay before writing files onto the NFS mount that holds this
user's home.

There's no delay in reading files, and once a file has been initially
created further writing to it seems to proceed normally. Eg. rsync'ing a
single large file into the user's home dir paused for a few few seconds
at about 15KB/sec and then proceeded at 40MB/sec.

localhost user:~ 1005 > time touch /tmp/onlyatest

real 0m0.002s
user 0m0.000s
sys 0m0.002s

localhost user:~ 1006 > time touch /home/user/onlyatest-user

real 0m0.744s
user 0m0.001s
sys 0m0.001s

There is no delay in reading files (this is for /home/user/somefile
which is a 28KB file):
real 0m0.017s
user 0m0.000s
sys 0m0.000s

Can anyone help out in eliminating this delay?

Thanks

Tim Edwards
