Look at /proc/cpuinfo and look at supported extensions:

AMD processor: svm

All AMD from stepping F. I think that means all recent (last two years or more) 64-bit processors.
Intel processor: vmx

For Intel it's not so simple as with AMD.


Only 64 bit processors will support these extensions.

I was going to raise that same point, but as I started typing I realised my mistake.


The relevant 64-bit processors support 32-bit operating systems. Therefore, it's a software issue.
