I just unpacked a Sun X4240 (we have a few) and installed RHEL5.4 from kickstart. All went according to plan except that on first boot following install this popped up after the message about crashdump space not being allocated:

 FOUND MCP55 CHIP
 cfg value is c5
DETECTED RESTRICTED ROUTING ON MCP55! FLAGGING

Any ideas what it might mean? Other than the obviousness of the text itself? The MCP55 is the Southbridge chipset.

Weirdly, I also saw this:

forcedeth 0000:80:09.0: Invalid Mac address detected: ffff811027b691a8M
forcedeth 0000:80:09.0: Please complain to your hardware vendor. Switching to
a random MAC.
 forcedeth 0000:80:09.0: ifname eth3, PHY OUI 0x5043 @ 3, addr 00:00:6c:1f:fa:fa

Which wasn't helpful either as it created a new /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth3 where the port was set to be enabled on boot. I'm wondering if the motherboard's a little bit suspect...

Thoughts?
