Redhat keeps up with the latest security and bugfixes for Firefox, that's one of the reasons you pay them so much. They do this by backporting it into the current version that's in RHEL whenever possible, which is why it seems to be such an old version. Nothing wrong with installing a new version (3.5 is really nice) but you have to remember to update it yourself, outside the normal package updates.
