The system-config-printer utility in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 stores the configuration for the printer queues in "alchemist". The alchemist configuration is written out to the CUPS configuration files. The "Browsed Queues" tree shows queues that are not stored in alchemist but which are set in the CUPS configuration. So for some reason your alchemist data store is now empty but the queues are still configured in CUPS. I'm not sure why that would be. You can use 'printconf-tui --Xexport' to view the XML file describing the queues as they are configured in alchemist, but presumably there are no queues defined in it. What has changed on that machine since queues were last editable in system-config-printer? Tim. */
