3.1. Kernel Platform Enablement

This release introduces support for Intel's new platforms, code-named
Boxboro-EX and Boxboro-MC, AMD's new processor family, code-named Magny-Cours
and IBM's Power7 processor.

I also read 5.5 supports up to 96 cores.

We've just ordered a few Dell R815 servers. A couple of them will be equipped
with 4 x AMD Opteron 6172, 12 core chips, 48 cores per box. Does anyone know if
I will need to be recompiling kernels to enable RHEL5.4/5.5 to see all those
cores?
