The PC world, both hardware and software, must embrace the new 4K hard drive block size standard. This includes anaconda, parted, fdisk, and all of our other utilities and tools. <editorial> There are a few of us old enough to remember back to 1981 and the Boca Raton wonder -- IBM's first PC/XT. Its internals became de facto standards: the BIOS, the ISA bus, VGA video, and (for PC/AT) the CHS structure. Most of those have evolved, but some went extinct and have been replaced (e.g., the ISA bus). The CHS disk structure evolved to LBA, but the primitive 512-byte block size has not changed in 30 years. It's time for another extinction. </editorial> --Doc Savage Fairview Heights, IL _______________________________________________ rhelv5-list mailing list [email protected] https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/rhelv5-list
