Sorry for replying in late.

The /var  is being created as a lvm partition.

Here is the  df -k is showing as :

/dev/mapper/vg1-var
                       3047184    219064   2670836   8% /var 

Here is the parted report :

 parted /dev/vg1/var print

Model: Linux device-mapper (dm)
Disk /dev/mapper/vg1-var: 3221MB
Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/512B
Partition Table: loop

Number  Start   End     Size    File system  Flags
 1      0.00kB  3221MB  3221MB  ext3
