The /etc/redhat-release file never contains kernel version. Only the major and
minor release information is in this file.

Try:

uname -a
and
lsb_release -a

Also, internet is filled with basic information on how to check the kernel, OS
release or basic linux how to - try google search first.

Subject: [rhelv5-list] redhat-release compatible to kernel version

Hi,

In our few servers, the rpm of redhat-release is not compatible to the exact
kernel version.

It happens because redhat-release rpm can be updated any time , but kernel
upgrade is not always happen..

So, how the correct redhat-release version, compatible to the kernel can be
identified ?

Thanks in advance
