Hi,

I am using RHEL5.0(2.6.18.-8.el5) on intel i815 board.
RHEL is not accepting kernel parameter of vga=0x301 to 640X480X256 mode.
Even other modes are not accepted and no fb0 device file created in /dev/
But on other laptop(intel 945GM board) when i give smae parameter on fedora 8
it worked.
Suspecting RHEL 5.0, i have tried on RHEL 5.3 on another PC(i7 with NVIDIA
chipset) with vga=0x301. it was accepted.

then i have loaded RHEL 5.3 on i815 board and tried vga=0x301. still not
accepted.

it seems frame buffer support is available with 5.3 for only select chipsets
and 5.0 whether supports or not i doubt.

Linux kernel 2.2 onwards frame buffer support is there. but
RHEL5.0(2.6.18-8.el5) not accepting "vga=0x301"

please advise me

1.whether RHEL 5.0 supports frame buffer or not?. and if supports, vga=0x301
ois sufficient to enable 640X480X256 mode or not. what all chipsets are
supported by 5.0's frame buffer

2.which chipsets are being supported by RHEL 5.3 frame buffer.

3. RHEL version that supports maximum number of chipsets?

thanking you
                         yours
                           vijay
