Regarding KDE, in my thin client integrations, I have always chosen GNOME for
accessibility. I know KDE has added such, but GNOME 2.0+ handled accessibility
very well, and it's at the heart of the core libraries that all programs
utilize.

Regarding mainboard and PCI modem, what solution have you been choosing? In
years prior, I've often chosen the AMD chipset -- both CPU and GPU/peripheral)
single chips -- that TSMC fabs at 55nm and, now, 40nm. It's been very
compatible, and the boxes cheap ($99) in huge volume (4-5 figures). Intel has
not been very competitive in this area until only recently with Atom, although
that's a mixed bag.

However, for Atom, also know that Intel has been pushing the new simple
firmware
(SFI)[1] that is *NOT* backward compatible with PC BIOS, and removes many of
the
compatible PCI I/O interfaces. I'm not talking about extensible firmware
(EFI)[2] which is taking over the server world, which has a PC BIOS
compatibility mode, but it's little brother SFI. I.e., try installing Windows
on SFI.[1] If the system is using SFI, then you need to have a SFI-specific
Linux toolkit, although there are some mainstream/upstream efforts in this area.

I'd be interested in knowing the details of your hardware to identify why there
are issues. I've done a lot of embedded in my time, and if you're device
doesn't have a bus that remotely looks like a PC (the majority of embedded
device evaluation boards do not), then that can be a major issue -- with any
distribution or general PC OS.

Gentlemen,

I have participated in the rhel6 evaluations, both releases, from my
experience,

on-motherboard network not recognized / pci modem not supported / KDE not
reasonably integrated or tested / ability to implement 'thin client' solution
limited by all the above problems. The only reasonable response I have gotten
is 'nobody else is having the problem' or in the case of the modem
non-configuration a link to an ubuntu hint. If that is what we have come to,
this release isn't ready.
