Actually, I believe the difference is in the 'ls' output, a newer version of 
the coreutils package is installed in RHEL6, which has been updated to show the 
'.' for SELinux attributes on a file.

Check out the info page for coreutils, specifically:

info coreutils 'What information is listed' 

(compare with the info page from rhel5)
