Have not done this yet, but will do so soon. But judging by previous experience, since you are upgrading from major version 5 to major version 6, you will most likely end up with rpm package mess as well as multiple libraries and kernels from 5.6 and 6.0. If you dont mind having multiple versions of the same packages, maybe its the way to go for you - i would rather avoid this if possible. It always better to do a fresh install and application migration. I assume you applications on RHEL 5.6 support RHEL 6.0
Minor version upgrade from 5.4 -> 5.6 will go smooth. For major upgrades, consider application migration. ________________________________________ From: [email protected] [[email protected]] On Behalf Of Tracy Halstead [[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, March 16, 2011 9:13 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [rhelv6-list] RHEL5 to RHEL6 Update Greetings, Has anyone attempted to update from RHEL5.6 to RHEL6.0? There is a particular need to update instead of doing a new install on one of our systems. Also, how does one do a text install versus gui these days? Thanks!
