It may do but being a relatively new feature it won't have been tested
hugely so its still probably a matter of suck and see. You could run
rhythmbox up and watch the resources it uses with no one connected
then get people added and see how  much it goes up by.

One option I suppose it to add a option in the preferences to set the
max number of users or connections.
