The Rhythmbox support for iPod's is simple and good enough that you should probably just plug it in and see if it works by yourself. Make sure the iPod plugin is enabled and if it works, the iPod should appear as a source in Rhythmbox. That simple. If it doesn't appear, then it's not supported and you would have spent less time on that then writing these emails ;)
Regardless of model, automatic syncing the iPod with Rhythmbox does not work.
