I came up against the issue of bug 133444 (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=133444) recently i.e. found it annoying that Rhythmbox didn't sort artists ignoring trivial words such as "The" in artist names. I've written a plugin I'm calling the Rhythmbox Artist Prefix Plugin that allows the user to configure a list of artist prefixes to ignore then attempts to automatically add the artist name to the sort field to give the desired sorting.
