We are not going to be resolving this issue for 3.3.3, but it is still a valid
feature request for a combo box. After investigation there was too much risk
associated with the change, including the possibility of effecting current
behaviors to be addressed in a point release.
This will likely be part of the requirements for 4.0, and will be discussed
more in that release. If for some reason there are future releases of the
3.3.X branch we'll review to have it included there.
