What they do agree on is: we must do something because Fannie, Freddie, Bear Sterns, AGI, CitiGroup, and GM are too big to fail. And they agree on the solution too. Throw money at it. And if doesn't fix the problem, throw more money at it. That's all they have to offer, our money. It's just insane. One of the theories being brought forth is: terrorists have planted suit case bombs in several US cities and have made demands which involve the financial meltdown. Sounds like something like TVs 24 program. Where's Jack when you need him? The scary thing about it is, we know so little about the problem, we have no evidence to dismiss the theory. The only hint to let US know this is nonsense is, if true the bail out money would be going to foreign terrorists instead of domestic thieves. In the beginning, Congress gave Henry Paulson exclusive control with no oversight. No one knows, or has the right to know, where all the money is going. Show me that one in the Constitution. He demanded more dollars than there are stars in the sky right now, or it would fall. The sky, that is. Even Barack must know, deep in his heart, $2 Tril is a budget buster. It leaves nothing for other important needs, such as unannounced raises for congressmen next term. A sane man wouldn't do what they did next. After assuring the next several generations would live a life struggling in hock, the Senate came back with a 2nd bill laden with $150 bil pork barrel/ear marks added, to reassure their re-election. Got that? $3 bil to spend in every state. Or, put another way, about $100M for each contested Senate seat race. That's more than Barack spent to win Calif! This doesn't make sense either. You don't spend billions wen running up trillions of debt. Unless of course, it means getting a filibuster-proof Senate. The official reason for the meltdown is millions of toxic mortgages resulting from demands by Rep Barney Frank and Sen Chris Dodd to every person ACORN or La Raza signed up. So now the auto industry is being told they must submit their $25 bil loan request to, of all people, Twiddle Dumb and Twiddle Dumber, the architects of this global financial disaster! But what if the bad paper is just a red herring? What if there is a bomb about to go off? Not a necessarily a suit case bomb, but an economic bomb that would threaten the political and/or financial structure. You know, that thing that VP elect warned US about? Maybe he was referring to the spread the wealth thing. Something that may not seem right and we'd have to trust them. Remember. First thing that makes any sense, sorta. There's another thing I've been thinking about. What happened to Matt Drudge. Is his disappearance in any way connected to this historical theft? He resigned from his radio show on the air with now warning. The Drudge Report still exists, but have you seen him since. Certainly, he would be harder to censor than the 3 networks. So let's see what we have in the way of facts: 1. trillions of debt created out of thin air and 2. no idea who or what went wrong to cause the meltdown or how to fix it. 3. an economy in the crapper. 4. a reduction in the number of financial institutions but even bigger survivors. 5. a one-political party govt, with Socialist tendencies. 6. the govt has taken an equity stake (aka ownership) of a significant portion in the private sector. 7. there are reports of military maneuvers inside USA . Is that about it. What did I miss? CAPITALISM Capitalism depends on competition to control business. Competition is what makes US think more and work harder. It is based on the assumption that the customer is always right. Socialists call this "unregulated corporatism." Ideally, our govt works on a similar theory. They call it the consent of the governed. This doesn't mean there isn't a proper role for govt. It's legitimate job is to assure and protect the best system in the world, which includes competition. When a corp gets so big it no longer depends on a satisfied customer, it has become a monopoly and should be broken up. As I've said in the past, that is the proper solution to Ford & GM today. As for the high-risk/big-return investors at Chrysler, they need to decide whether to hold 'em or fold 'em. Someone will pick up the pieces, as long as the big 2 don't. THE BOTTOM LINE No company, corporation or institution should be allowed to grow "too big to fail". It's NOT in the best interest of the nation to allow itself to be vulnerable like we have become.
