To Friends and fellow patriots, from Rich Martin

Our marriage vows said: like 2 rivers merging to make one mighty river, Rich
Martin and Margaret Russell are one.  I can’t tell you how many times over the
last 47 years we cited “one and one is one” to each other. She’s not in the
ground yet, and I miss her so much.

We met when the USS Wasp went into the Boston Naval Shipyard for a weapons
upgrade and I got myself a parttime night job so I could fly home to Chicago
and come back with my car.

One day I went to work in my dress blues and the day cashier met me in the
middle of the dining room. "She asked me who tied my neck tie? Let me fix it."
I sdidn't know it, but I was smitten.

Over the years, like most couples we hit some rough patches. The worst was when
we lost our first son. He lived and breathed but a few hours. All I could give
him was my name, Richard John Martin, Jr.
