Interesting Items Alex Gimarc [email protected] Interesting Items 8-20 In this issue: 1. FRC 2. Salazar 3. GM 4. Corzine 5. Ryan 6. DHS 1. FRC. A gunman who did volunteer work at a local LGBT support center went a-visiting to the headquarters of the Family Research Center (FRC) in DC last week. He was also carrying a bag of Chick-fil-a sandwiches and a firearm. For the record, firearms are illegal in DC except for the very rich or the very well connected. He pulled the firearm and tried to start blasting away, wounding a security guard. He told the guard that it was not about him (the guard) but “…what this place stands for.” Hate crime, anyone? It took the state run media hours to report on the shooting. Contrast the lack of interest in a hate crime perpetrated by a LGBT sympathizer against a Christian organization with any shooting of anyone or anything on the left. To date, the state-run media has been mostly silent about both the shooting and the LGBT sympathies of the shooter. Both the guard and the shooter are alive and breathing as of this writing. Expect this little bit of gay-friendly brown shirt violence to be buried as deeply as humanly possible by the media as the story unfolds. 2. Salazar. The loathsome Interior Secretary Ken Salazar spent three days in Alaska over the weekend (last, not this) rendering his royal edict on a development plan for the National Petroleum Reserve – Alaska (NPR-A). In presenting it, Salazar illegally locked up over half of the reserve from development. The rationale was to save the valuable wildlife. His proposed development plan also makes it all but impossible for the producers to string a pipeline from NPR-A and connect it with the rest of the Prudhoe Bay infrastructure. Both the Alaska Congressional Delegation and a number of Alaska legislators (all of whom are up for reelection this year) expressed outrage at Salazar’s actions, vowing to fight it in court or wherever the Hell they want to fight it. Salazar and Interior are simply making it up as they go along with this, as they do not have the statutory authority to impose such a development plan. But the democrats here in Alaska and the democrats in congress are completely silent on his actions. Thank you once again, Mark Begich. Salazar also took the opportunity to kick Shell Oil in the privates with comments about their lack of a timely start to drilling in the Chukchi Sea after all the permits were approved. The problem with that little bit of self-serving grandstanding is this: Salazar, Interior, the EPA, and OSHA all imposed significant, draconian restrictions on Shell before any drilling was to commence. They also gave Shell a deadline which to finish before winter set in. And with a 3-month summer up there, any delay for any reason (and the feds have imposed LOTS of reasons) all but ensures no drilling in a timely manner. The thing that appears to have gotten Shell in trouble is a spill containment barge that is sufficiently complex and wonderful that they can’t get it out of port in Seattle. It is beset with all manner of spills, containment problems, and other things you would expect from a piece of equipment that has never been required nor used before. And Shell gets to figure it all out within a matter of days while the Secretary of the Interior is carping about their lack of timely response to his edicts. Nice. Salazar, the EPA and the greens are a threat to our way of life, jobs, the environment, and jobs nationwide. It is well past time to do something about them. Tar and feathers would be a nice start. 3. GM. Government Motors is well on its way to a second bankruptcy. This one will take place (hopefully) under normal bankruptcy laws and the tutelage of a Romney administration. The feds currently hold about 26% of all remaining stock in the company. The UAW holds the majority of the shares via Obama and Ratner’s highly creative and illegal bankruptcy procedures in 2009. The Obama administration now claims that sales of all its GM stocks will leave the taxpayers a loss of over $25 billion. Now here’s the funny part: Obama is actually running on the smashing success of having saved GM for the UAW. He claims to have saved over a million jobs. No comment out of Obama about the 20,000 non-union Delphi management employees he and his UAW buddies screwed out of their pensions. No comment out of Obama on how many dealerships he arbitrarily shut down all based on who their owners gave campaign contributions to in recent years (yes, the Chicago protection racket still is operative). Here in Anchorage, one of our local GM dealer is becoming a bit of a ghost town, with the sales staff down by at least two thirds over the last few years. There are a lot of vehicles on the lot, the most popular of which continue to be the large trucks and SUVs. The GM bailout has been yet another in the continuing economic disasters by the fascists in the Obama administration. 4. Corzine. Here’s a fun question: When does losing a billion dollars of your investors’ money become a simple “oopsie?” Answer: When you are one of the primary cash bundlers for the 2008 and 2012 Obama presidential campaigns. The NYT reported last week that federal investigators into the collapse Corzine’s MF Global were unable to place any blame on Corzine, so it appears that he simply walks away scott free. For his part, Corzine is now considering starting a hedge fund. One of the signature things about the Obama administration’s reaction to financial failures and disasters has been the lack of interest in prosecuting anyone involved in the loss. In doing so, they effectively rig the game so that well connected democrat contributors and supporters are coddled and the rest of the investors are hosed (not unlike the GM and Chrysler bond holders). 5. Ryan. Putative Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney announced his selection of Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan (R, WI) as his Vice President nominee. Ryan is one of the smartest budget guys in Capitol Hill, a seven-term congress critter from an evenly split district, and also the Chair of the House budget Committee. He knows the numbers. Ryan is 42, and represents the second Gen-Xer on a presidential ticket (Palin was the first). The thing about Ryan is that he knows how to dismantle ObamaCare, and has written a budget passed by the House to do precisely that. His announcement fired up the TEA Party base instantly, put Wisconsin which had been leaning Obama into play as a tossup state, and triggered the expected reaction from the Obama campaign and democrats nationwide – the old MediScare campaign. Some people are just not too smart. And democrats and their supporters be a lot of them. They already tried the MediScare campaign against Ryan and Republicans in 2010 and got their back sides handed to them by the voters. They vow to try it again this time around, making every single congressional race a race on saving Medicare. Throw me into that briar patch. The problem is that the only people who have done damage to Medicare the last few years have been congressional democrats and Obama himself. And they did it by moving some $716 billion in Medicare spending into ObamaCare via a series of double counting, duplicitous accounting entries. In essence, they stole from the program, a fact not unknown to the elderly. And in doing so, they also shut down the very popular Medicare Advantage program, which they are stealing over $8 billion from another account to keep the fantasy alive through the October sign-up period. Democrats and their sycophants in the media are slowly coming to the realization that Romney and Ryan are perfectly happy with running on a defense of Medicare, and the media and most democrats are not aware that it has been gutted by Obama, Reid and Pelosi in order to pay for the hated ObamaCare. Perhaps they should have read it before voting to pass it so that they knew what was in it. This has the potential to be a lot of fun. 6. DHS. What happens when you put a bull dyke lesbian in charge of your internal security apparatus? Apparently one thing is that she hires more of her girlfriends who hire other girlfriends and turn the entire mess into a training ground for sexual harassment of men and sexually based promotions. Such is the current problem with the Department of Homeland Security, which has a couple of Janet Napolitano’s gal-pals running roughshod over men in the department. In a sexual harassment lawsuit filed last May, some demoted executives claim that Napolitano’s appointees sexually abused their male employees, and that promotions were based on sexual preference rather than the ability to get the job done. And you thought that the TSA was the center of all problems at DHS. Now it appears that the problem infests the entire command structures. Napolitano and her gal pals are in heap big trouble and someone or a lot of someones will be writing some large caliber checks in the not so distant future as a result. It couldn’t happen to a nicer group of people. Time to shut down DHS and jail all the management and political appointees. This has got to stop. More later - - AG "If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams, speech at the Philadelphia State House, August 1, 1776.
