Mitt Romney
Another chink in his armor

I just got an email from Bill Walker. If you don't know him, you should. He was
one of the leaders who brought federal lawsuits regarding an Article V
Convention during the Clinton and Bush years. His organization, FOAVC, Friends
of the Article V Convention, was named repeatedly in two recent Congressional
Research Service reports about the convention. The Article V Convention is a
constitutional requirement that needs to be addressed and one that Mitt Romney
opposes. Take note because it's the only way a controlled peaceful revolution
can take place in this country...

In his email, Bill provided me a mythical quote by Mitt Romney's regarding his
response to the real decision by the Republican Party, as one of its 2012 party
platform planks, opposition to obeying the Constitution and calling an Article
V Convention as mandated by the Constitution.  In short, the Republican Party
and its standard bearer support vetoing the Constitution.

This is a serious issue going far beyond the issue of an Article V Convention.
It is true the president has no part in the amendatory process. However, he is
responsible to "preserve, protect and defend" the Constitution as well as
seeing the laws of the land are faithfully obeyed. These laws include oath of
office laws for members of Congress who are required to obey the Constitution
and who have thus far refused to call the convention despite the fact the
states have long since satisfied the single condition set forth in Article V.
What does it say about a man who seeks the nation's highest office that he
represents a party whose platform includes support of direct repudiation of the
Constitution that man says if elected he will "preserve"?

If Mitt Romney and his party are willing to disobey the Constitution on this
issue, the question is: what other parts of the Constitution will he veto if
elected to office. Bill's mythical quote follows:

"Mitt Romney today stated that if elected he will veto the Constitution. Romney
came out in support of his own party's plank opposing obeying Article V of the
Constitution. The Constitution requires Congress call an Article V Convention
or convention for proposing amendments if two thirds of the states or 34 apply
for a convention call. It does not permit Congress to refuse to call. Despite
the fact the public record shows 49 states have applied for a convention call
far in excess of the 34 required by the Constitution, Romney who usually
supports states rights, condemned the efforts of the states to call a
convention saying, "I don't give a damn what the Constitution says. We're not
going to obey it if I'm elected president. The states can apply all they want.
On this they have no power and we're not going to give them any. And I don't
care one bit if almost all the applications ARE in support of our conservative
agenda. We're not going to hold a
convention. Period. People might get the idea they have the right to run this
government and we can't have any of that."

Romney has said he is fully aware of the fact 49 states have submitted over 700
applications for a convention call. "Sure I know about the records kept by
FOAVC (Friends of the Article V Convention)" Everybody in Congress has read the
two CRS reports. But that doesn't make a bit of difference. My friends at the
John Birch Society are opposed to a convention and I stand head and shoulders
with them on this. Where would this country be if the people had any real say
on how it is run?"

Romney continued, "In 1983 then retired Chief Justice Warren Burger wrote a
letter warning of the dangers of a convention. Like the retired chief justice,
I too am concerned about a convention.”

Editor's note: Public record shows Justice Burger served on the Supreme Court
from 1969 to 1986. The letter can be read at the anti convention site

For those interested, here are links to CRS reports referred to in the mythical
quote and a link to the over 700 applications submitted by the states for an
Article V Convention call. Once again for clarification: while the quote is
mythical, the RNC platform is real, the CRS reports are real and the
applications are real.

Isn’t it ironic that President Obama is so reveled in the nation's Black
community, when the Luo tribe from which he came has a history of selling
prisoners of rival African tribes to the Muslims who delivered them to the
auction blocks in Europe and America?

"A gang is a group of men under the command of a leader, bound by a compact of
association, in which the plunder is divided according to an agreed convention.
If this villainy wins so many recruits from the ranks of the demoralized that
it acquires territory, establishes a base, captures cities and subdues peoples,
it then openly arrogates to itself the title of `kingdom,’ which is conferred
on it in the eyes of the world, not by the renouncing of aggression but by the
attainment of impunity."
St. Augustine in The City of God
