>LSTP TEXAS ALERT - URGENT URGENT URGENT; SUPPORT HJR 2/HB 16!
>
>
>July 17, 2013
>
>Dear Transportation Advocate:
>The Texas House of
Representatives will hold a critical vote this Thursday. If allocating
more revenue to fund transportation investment is important to you,
please contact your legislator and tell him or her to vote for HJR 2 and HB 16.
>
>HJR 2, if approved by
the Legislature and the voters, will permit the state highway fund to
retain all of the motor fuels tax revenue rather than sending 25 percent to the
available school fund. Public education will not lose any money. An amount
equal to 25 percent of motor fuels tax revenue will still be
allocated to the available school fund. It will come from revenue from
the oil and gas production tax rather than the motor fuels tax.
>
>HB 16, if approved by
the Legislature, will allocate to the state highway fund one third of
the vehicles sales tax revenue in excess of $3.6 billion annually, so as
vehicle sales increase, transportation funding will increase.
>
>We are in support of a floor for the Rainy Day Fund and will work to ensure
>that a floor is
added in the Senate. However, if we do not pass this measure in the
third reading, this issue will not be given to the Texas voter to
determine in November. Thursday, Texas growth is at stake on Thursday,
the future of Texas transportation fueling economic development is at
stake, the future of State Highway 360 is at stake, the growth in our
community is on the Texas House floor.
>
>
>These two measures are the last opportunity before the Legislature reconvenes
>in 2015 to
address the large transportation funding gap Texas faces. Contacting
your legislator can make the difference in whether HJR 2 and HB 16 pass
or fail. Please take a minute to call or e-mail your legislator today.
