Interesting Items 7/22 -

Howdy all, a few Interesting Items for your information. Enjoy –

In this issue:

1.  Zimmerman
2.  IRS
3.  Climate
4.  O’Donnell
5.  Bunny
6.  Detroit
7.  Pebble

1.  Zimmerman.  Fallout from the Zimmerman verdict took place all week long as
the race hustlers seized upon the outcome to push their divisive
political agenda.  They are exploiting the death of this 17 year-old for all
its worth, while bringing the full force of the US Department of
(In)Justice to bear against the acquitted.  Last week we saw the return
of one Rachel Jeantel, the young man’s girl friend, who made the rounds
of the cable shows trying to undo the damage she did to herself on the
stand.  She got a makeover, with a new hairdo and better clothes and
coaching on a story that got better each time she told it.  This woman
is the product of the public education system and the ultimate democrat
voter.  She is not to be ridiculed, though that would be easy.  She is
to be pitied.  She expounded on the proper use of the epithets “cracka”
and “nigga.”  Interesting set of words, as both are used regularly by
southern whites and blacks respectively, but woe be unto the opposite
racial member that uses it.  The most interesting thing she said was
that Trayvon was that Zimmerman looked gay, and there was some concern
that he would follow Trayvon home where his younger brother was.  This
makes the rationale for the attack more old fashioned gay-bashing than
anything else, something Limbaugh and Drudge picked right up upon and
the rest of the leftist media purposely ignored.  Holder made a few
public remarks, doing his level best to further whip up the racial
frenzy.  Obama did the same Friday, though his remarks seemed more timed to
deflect from very damaging revelations during the House IRS Hearings the day
before.  In Florida, the IT forensics specialist that notified
the defense of Trayvon’s cell phone contents withheld from them by the
prosecution and was fired when the case went to the jury filed the
expected whistleblower lawsuit against Rachel Corey and the State
Prosecutor’s Office.  Discovery will be very fun to watch during this
case, as the internal threats apparently were spread far and wide, and
the evidence manipulation went a lot farther than simply the fired IT
forensics guy.  Nice shop Ms. Corey is running.  Holder’s speech has
been described by some as a signal that he does not have enough to
charge Zimmerman with a civil rights violation.  Yet they placed a hold
on all evidence gathered during the investigation by Florida law
enforcement and the FBI.  This means that he will not get his firearm
back any time soon.  There was a story of an offer to gift Zimmerman
with his choice of firearm so I do not expect him to be unarmed for
long.  Of course the death threats continued and will continue as long
as Obama, Holder and the other race hustlers stir up the masses.  All in all,
despite the best efforts of the race baiters, I do not get the
impression this is working as well as they would like.  Perhaps we are
finally getting sick and tired of the game.  I know that I am.

2.  IRS.  A blockbuster revelation at the House Committee hearing on the
IRS targeting conservative groups has the IRS General Counsel, one of
only two political appointees to the IRS, directing the action.  Along
with head of the IRS who visited the Obama White House over 157 times
during his tenure, more than any other cabinet member, this not only
demonstrates the involvement of the Obama WH in the festivities, but
also the depth of that involvement.  This is not going away any time
soon.  http://dailycaller.com/2013/ 07/17/irs-lawyer-says-scandal-

3.  Climate.  Barbara Boxer (D, CA) held a hearing on “climate change”,
formerly known as “manmade global warming due to carbon dioxide
emissions” Thursday.  As usual, the panel of experts was packed with
supporters of the fraud, most of which take public funding to say so,
but also included a hard core skeptic, Dr. Roy Spencer who looks at
satellite data, and Roger Pielke, who is swinging to the skeptic side of the
discussion but grudgingly blames everything on carbon dioxide.  The hearing was
intended to underscore Obama’s call for a further war on
carbon (dioxide) from a couple weeks ago.  Despite what everyone else
had to say or claimed, Roy Spencer blew them out of the water, making
the case that there is no measurable manmade global warming due for
carbon dioxide, or due to anything else for that matter.  In fact,
global temperatures have been static for at least 17 years, while carbon
dioxide levels in the atmosphere continue to increase.  Once the levels of
carbon dioxide and temperatures in the atmosphere decouple, every
single one of their computer generated models fail and the theory falls
apart.  And it has been going on for 17 years.  Watts Up With That had
excellent coverage of the hearing, which did not give the outcome Boxer
and the senate democrats wanted.  You can find a writeup including
presentations and video at the following link.

4.  O’Donnell.  Former Republican TEA Party candidate for the US Senate
Christine O’Donnell has been ridiculed by many for her missteps during
her run for US Senate from Delaware to Chris Coons, a committed Marxist, in
2010.  As it turns out, the democrats were sufficiently concerned
about her candidacy that they used the IRS to leak confidential tax
information to the media starting the day she announced her candidacy in 2010.
A Treasury Inspectors General told Senator Charles Grassley in
response to a question that O’Donnell was one of four Republican
candidates or donors targeted since 2006.  The IRS slapped a lien on a
home she no longer owned on the day she announced, something the media
loudly reported.  That reporting damaged her early on.  And it was all a
blatant lie manufactured, aided, and abetted by a politicized IRS.  At
the same time, a state government official illegally accessed her tax
information.  Neither of these happens unless the political appointees
in the IRS approve the harassment.  It wasn’t political missteps that
defeated O’Donnell.  Rather it was Obama administration dirty tricks
coupled with the slavish reportage of the state-run media.

5.  Bunny.  Yet another example of a government that is too large, too
intrusive and too overbearing is the USDA Bunny Inspectors.  Using a
very old law intended to regulate animals used in circuses and zoos;
bureaucratic creep has extended the regulatory intrusiveness down to
single magicians using animals.  In this case, a 54-year old magician in
Missouri who ends his show by pulling a rabbit out of his hat was
slapped with a demand for a disaster recovery plan for the rabbit the
USDA licenses for use in his show.  Along with the disaster plan, he
also is required to notify the USDA of the itineraries of his travels
with the rabbit.  If he decides to eat the rabbit, he doesn’t need to
tell the USDA.  The new regulation apparently came out of the aftermath
of Hurricane Katrina, where people abandoned their animals in an attempt to
flee the storm.  A lot of animals died during the destruction,
leading to a need (in the eyes of the bureaucracy) for a disaster plan
for their care.  And they are busily applying it as far and wide as
humanly possible.  I think the USDA has outlived its usefulness and is
sorely in need of defunding and responsibilities transferred to the many
states.  Sooner would be better than later.  http://hotair.com/archives/

6.  Detroit.  After over half a century of one party (democrat) rule, the
economic disaster formerly known as the city of Detroit filed for
bankruptcy last week.  This makes it the largest bankruptcy in recent
times.  The filing was under federal bankruptcy laws by an Emergency
manager appointed by the Michigan Governor.  Detroit has total
liabilities of $18 billion.  The recovery plan calls for cutting the
$11.5 billion debt down to around $2 billion, mostly by slashing
pensions of municipal union members who will end up getting around 17%
of what is promised.  Welcome to reality, union members and retirees.
Of course the unions found themselves a friendly judge who issued an
injunction based on a provision of the state constitution that she read
to not allow local governments to declare bankruptcy, instead putting
the entire state treasury on the hook for fiscal malfeasance of each
local government.  It’s going to be interesting to see the unions and
their union-friendly judges make the case that that provision of the
state constitution trumps federal bankruptcy laws.  This is the first
major bankruptcy in a while.  Given the fiscal straits occupied by the
states of CA, IL and NY, I do not expect it to be the last.

7.  Pebble.  Speaking of fiscal reality, it just hit the Iliamna Village
Council, which is trying to rescind supportive comments submitted by the
Village Council President to the EPA’s hatchet job study on mining in
the Bristol Bay region.  The comments were submitted with an analysis by a
Professor Emeritus from the Colorado School of Mines blasting away at mining
development in the region.  As of this writing, the EPA is
essentially saying tough toenails, as the comments and the analysis will be
included as part of the permanent record, likely because it agrees
with their anti-mining position.  The Village Council overrode the
President and pointed out that a mine would bring jobs to one of the
most economically destitute regions in the state, and this is a Good
thing.  They also probably pointed out that they saw few if any positive
economic benefits by the mostly out of state dominated commercial
fishery in Bristol Bay.  Reality, what a concept.

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better
than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not
your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed
you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye
were our countrymen."
- Samuel Adams, speech at the Philadelphia
  State House, August 1, 1776.
