They will bite and attach for feeding (a blood meal is a necessary part of
their reproductive cycle) but they don't get under your skin like chiggers.
Be happy if they are crawling out of your hair -- that means you won't get
surprised a couple days later by a soft, pea-sized tick attached to your
scalp! (I can smile now, but it was pretty gross at the time <g>).

I've been checked for Lymes Disease (its present in our deer ticks) but the
doctors assure me that the tick has to be feeding for close to 36 hours or
more before enough spirochetes get transferred to cause the disease (local
cases have all been in children-- who aren't as vigilant about parasite
removal as are  grossed out adults).
