INVESTIGATION OF NOVEL HYDROGEN-RICH INTERMETALLIC HYDRIDES
Ph.D. studentship in Crystallography at the Laboratory of Crystallography, University of Geneva, Switzerland

The laboratory of Crystallography at the University of Geneva has an open Ph.D. position for investigation of novel intermetallic hydrides with high hydrogen content. The average and local crystal structures of the hydrides will be studied by the X-ray and neutron powder diffraction including the analysis of the total scattering and modelling of the Atomic Pair Distribution Function. The position is available from April 2005 or according to the candidate availability. The successful applicant should have a degree equivalent to the university diploma. A good background in general crystallography and solid state chemistry/physics and an additional capability of computer programming (language c++) would be an advantage. The theoretical work includes further development of the computer program FOX (http://objcryst.sourceforge.net). The experimental work will be done at various synchrotron and neutron radiation sources in Europe (ESRF and ILL Grenoble, PSI Villigen etc).
