Dear All, The deadline for the registration for the Debye-Rietveld meeting has been extended to September 7th!
This year it is 100 years ago that Peter Debye introduced powder diffraction and it is also 50 years ago that Hugo Rietveld introduced the profile method to refine crystal structures from powder diffraction patterns. We want to celebrate the anniversaries of these two significant breakthroughs that made diffraction a standard technique for scientists around the world . As both scientists are Dutch, we are organizing an international scientific symposium in the Netherlands to celebrate this 100+50 year event. You and your team are cordially invited to attend this meeting. The symposium will take place on Thursday September 22nd at the Shell Technology Centre Amsterdam. We have a list of prominent speakers from academia and industry: Reinhard Neder (Univ. Erlangen), Bill David (Univ. Oxford), Robert Dinnebier (MPI Stuttgart), Paolo Scardi (Univ. Trento), Marnix Wagemaker (TU Delft), Irene Margiolakis (Univ. of Patras) and Jaap Louwen(Albemarle) who will address the state-of-the-art in powder diffraction and the latest developments in the field. Jurrie Reiding will discuss the history of the invention of the Debye-Scherrer method. Bob van Laar has agreed to talk about the history of the invention of the profile method. During the symposium there will also be an industrial exhibition where several powder diffraction companies are represented as well as a poster session where scientists and students can show there work. There will be ample time to meet scientists and have discussions during the breaks. During the evening program you can join for a canal ride through the historical centre of Amsterdam followed by an informal diner at a restaurant at the IJ-river. The costs are kept at a minimum: The conference and the boat ride + conference diner cost EUR25,- each.
