Hi Team,

We are currently looking at moving over to JDK 1.6 across our Rifidi
products and we believe that it will open up some potential
incompatibilities with previous JDK versions.

As a result we wanted to bring this up before we continue forward.

As many of you may know we are currently running JDK 1.5 because our
version of JAXB (for xml processing) does not run on JDK 1.6. However
the problem is that most operating systems and Sun themselves recommend
moving over to JDK 1.6. As a result most automatic updates are now
enforcing this. We have had many emails and questions about this in the
past that we have put up a wiki page explaining this.

Since we are currently focusing on stabilizing our new products we are
going to make the move to JDK 1.6 as a part of this effort. The biggest
issue with this is that migrating JAXB to JDK 1.6 means that JDK 1.5 is
no longer supported. This effectively means that we will not be able to
run on JDK 1.5 after our next release (for users). For developers we
will be making this change on our codebase so at the end of this week
you will notice that you need JDK 1.6 to run off the trunk.

If anyone has any issues or reasons for us staying with JDK 1.5 then we
would really like to hear it. Likewise if you think JDK 1.6 is a good
move then please let us know as well. We are evenly split on this
decision amonst our development team and would like some help from the
community.

Thanks,

Prasith
