to elaborate on Olivier's reply, AFAIK (do correct me if im wrong), the ring password protects only the optional ring nickname association - the ring account does not require one - the account can be restored on another machine without associating it with a nickname if a (highly recommended) backup copy of the ring credentials exists
if the credentials were lost then the only option is to create a new account and all of your contacts would need to be added again and they would need to delete your lost account add your new account - it may be possible to associate an existing nickname with that new account using a script similar to this one but it is a "work in progress" and YYMV today https://gerrit-ring.savoirfairelinux.com/#/c/6164/
