i actually had the same thing happening to mine, fortunately within the
first year of waranty. so i carried it back to the dealer who in turn sent
it in, and got a brand new one back (alas, it took them 4 weeks+ to handle
this exchange).

so i guess, if you don't step on their toes about the brittle battery cover,
they're unlikely to change it.
