Hi :)

I hope I understand you correctly - I think you are saying the following:

you bought a Rio500 and plugged it into your machine and the first
time it worked.
After a couple of days the player stopped working.
The pc does not recognise the player when you plug it in.
The display does not work when you turn on the player.

If this is the case, I am afraid you will need to send it back to
either where you brought it from or to Damond (or their German
distributor). This happened to a friends player. she plugged it into
a win98 pc and it worked fine for a couple of days before it stopped
working. I am unsure what the problem is but I suspect it is a
firmware bug with the early firmware versions or a problem with the
usb system on older pc's.

Some dismantling and testing of her player showed that, although the
firmware, flash rom and the audio were fine (as was the display), the
main mpu - the processor - was dead. I am not at all sure how this
happened but I can guess that maybe, if it was a firmware problem,
the wrong area of the flash rom got high-voltage-wiped and it damaged
the chip. However, the only solution is to send it back.

I am still waiting for my friends player to come back but I have been
told they are goig to replace the faulty part of the player.

Sorry there is no easier solution.

Last weekend I buy a Rio 500, PC system was W2K. I Hand some
driver promblems with the Player but at least i can hear some Music
with the PLayer. One Day Later i listen to the Music and then my
Player go off! I think i muste taken a full battery in the portable
but that wasnt right. When i take a full battery in the Player and
turn the "on" the player didnt start again. So i phoned to support
and the man says to me oit is a W2K Problem some systems do not
support the player but not always. He says to me i can do nothing
because this mistake makes the player firmware crazy and so when i
today start my player and connect with usb cable under W98 the PC
search for a usb device driver but the driver from riohome and from
the disk doesnt work and the display from the driver doesnt work
when i turn on! But when i take battery on the player and he has
connection to the pc the pc search for this untitle "usb device"
driver! Please help me, because when i must send the player it is not
right because i must send it to usa and i came from south germany!
