Is there a way to reduce the syslog messages for really necessary events
like errors ?
We plan to introduce a reduced log level in a future release.
In particular, we'll start by looking at 'perd' log messages, which are
the most frequent. The '/home/atlas' file paths mentioned in the log
messages can safely be ignored, they're sent by the controller to
support older probe versions (pre-FHS/before 5090), but modified within
the relevant applets to the current paths in modern versions.
There is an open issue on our GitHub repository regarding this, which
also includes a user-provided hotfix for 'condmv' and 'httppost' lines:
https://github.com/RIPE-NCC/ripe-atlas-software-probe/issues/96
By the way, 1.5-3 is the version of 'ripe-atlas-repo', which purely
provides the APT repository for RIPE Atlas packages.
Meanwhile, 'ripe-atlas-common' are the essential components, while
'ripe-atlas-probe' are probe-specific files and configuration.
I hope I was able to answer your question and give some context.
The GitHub issue will be updated as progress is being made.
