Your main problem may be that you are ending up with a bunch of WAV files ... the trouble with these is that they have no meta data (tags such as track, artist, title) associated with them.
slimserver will have a good go at guessing if you keep the files in an organised structure as Pat has just suggested. However, as well as that, you'll get a lot more information into the system if you rip into a file format which permits tags. I use FLAC, but you can also tag AAC (Apple) and MP3 formats as well (and others). What are you using to rip the CDs?
