Mind you, the intermittent "ticks" you're getting really does sound like uncorrectable errors - I can't think of any other mechanism that would give this result. The mystery here is why your 712A isn't concealing them. I take it you did try playing the CD on a standard audio CD player, and the ticks were not present? I wonder if ripping at a lower speed might have helped.
