Hi there,
I have exactly the same problem.

I don't want the lossless files on the iPod at all, because they take
up too much room and reduce battery life drastically.

I have a high end system driven by a SLiM and don't want the lower
quality files to display there.

I don't want to maintain 2 libraries.

For you, the easiest way to do it would be convert the lossless files
to MP3 or AAC, and uncheck the lossless files in iTunes. This means
they won't goto the ipod.

The problem will then be (as is mine !) the lossy files show up on the
Slim, resulting in duplicates (or in my case non playing files because
slim can't differentiate between AAC and Apple lossless).

What we need is a way to choose WHICH files slim displays (ie, a choice
to NOT display AAC files would sort my problem out completely).
Or some logic that if a higher quality file is there with the same
tags, do NOT display the lower quality one.

So I have 2 feature requests :

1) Slimserver to be able to differeniate between Apple Lossless and
standard AAC. This is wreaking havoc with me at the minute as I can't
find a transcoder that handles both, meaning that one format OR the
other will NOT play on my SLIM.

2) An option to IGNORE lower quality files if a higher quality one
exists. This combined with the checkbox icon in iTunes would sort us
right out.
