1) As adhawkins said, you only have on file per CD to worry about, but
also it ensures perfect gapless playback and with track timing exactly
the same as the orginal CD. Also it means you have a perfect backup of
a CD that can be easily burnt back to an exact copy of the original.
Its the best way to archive your CD's which you can then re-encode to
any other format with minimal loss of quality for other players, like
an ipod etc...

2) I use Foobar to do this, its dead easy.
