But you can still run _one_ in the background so that track 1 will be
encoded while track 2 is ripped, etc.  This speeds up the overall rip
of a CD by a little.  If you're only encoding to Flac, then adding more
encoders in parrallel probably wouldn't ever launch more than one. 
Doing MP3 or multiple encodings (via a third party tool like MAREO)
might be different story.  Unless your CD drive is screaming, or you PC
is bogged down, you'll encode the previous track in Flac long before the
current one finishes ripping.
