Yes, FLAC is the best format for gapless playback (if you can afford the HDD space). 99% of the time i can never tell there is a gap (i have a lot of DJ mixes). The very rare times that i do, i think are more down to my slow wireless network. If i rip a CD with gaps, the gaps are there and the right lengh too. In fact, FLAC is the best way to rip IMO for many other reasons.
OGG also great for gapless playback just like FLAC, but not natively suported so you can't fastforward/rewind each track.
