I'm getting really confused now...! My take on Dan's note is this:
o If Compilation tag is set, make AlbumArtist=COMPILATION (in my case) o If there is a TPE2 (ALBUMARTIST or BAND aswell I think), then display that instead of the above name (COMPILATION). OK, that makes sense, but its not what happens (either in 6.2.1 or 6.2.2). What he is saying here is regardless of your "group compilation" setting, if you have the COMPILATION tag set, slim will group the album for you under "Various Artists" or whatever when browsing artist. I just re-tested this. If you don't have Group Compilation set, and your tracks are tagged with Compilation, all the individual artists are listed. If you switch Group Compilation back on, just Various Artist is shown. What I am seeing in 6.2.2 is the behaviour you describe - that is if you switch on Group COmpilation behaviour, regardess of Compilation tag, slim will group compilation albums. This is different to 6.2.1, which doesn't do this. My guess is that this must have been fixed in 6.2.2. Which is nice. Also, if you set ALBUMARTIST, then regardless of how Group Compilation behaviour is set, if there is no COMPILATION tag on the track, all the individual artists are listed again. Then... > If you have the 'Automatically Identify Various Artist Albums' turned > on > (which is the default), a post-processing step is done after a scan: I don't see this option in the web interface - is this in a config file somewhere? Or is he referring to the "Group Compilation" setting? (Dan's post was in August 05 - I don't know how much SlimServer has changed since then). I suspect that Slimserver bevhaviour has changed a little since Dan's posting. o In order to get compilation behaviour, you must set "group compilation" in behaviour settings. o In Slimserver 6.2.2 you do not need the COMPILATION tag set, if you switch on the above option. o If you don't have a COMPILATION tag and you DO have an ALBUMARTIST tag, then group compilation doesn't happen. In this case you need to add COMPILATION tag. Something else I noticed thats different in 6.2.2 behaviour with compilations: o If you have the Group Compilation behaviour set, and Browse Genres, and click on the relevant genre, ALL the artists are listed for that album, including the Various Artist name I specified (COMPILATION). This also happens in SoftSqueese. I don't think this is right... Its getting quite hard to keep my head round this!
